📍 Venue: 19 North Street, Exeter, EX4 3QS Combining traditional Petrykivka painting, mixed-media artworks, and wartime poetry, the exhibition tells not only the story of one family, but of every Ukrainian household. It is a story of embroidered shirts hidden in grandmother’s trunks, of grief and healing, and of traditions that endure — even in the darkest times.
After the full-scale invasion began, Maryna fled Kyiv and found temporary refuge in western Ukraine. There, she began to paint and write. Her raw and honest works, drawn on crumpled paper with layers of newsprint and muted colours, reflect the disorientation of war and a suspended sense of time.
The second part of the exhibition celebrates Petrykivka, a UNESCO-listed folk art form. In Maryna’s hands, it becomes a language of resilience and remembrance —…
