Українською нижче In 1964, director Serhii Parajanov created something unprecedented – a film that broke all the rules and paid the price. "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" was too bold, too Ukrainian, too free. Parajanov spent years in Soviet prisons for his art.
The film tells a Carpathian love story through explosive colour, ancient rituals, and visual poetry that influenced everyone from Tarkovsky to Scorsese. It's been called Ukraine's answer to "2001: A Space Odyssey" – but made three years earlier.
This newly restored version brings back the original fierce colours and crystal-clear sound. Watch it on a big screen the way it was meant to be seen.
