We are seeking non-exec Directors to support the next phase of organisational growth, ensuring we are best placed to manage expectations of our Ukrainian community, whilst becoming financially resilient.
These posts are for non-executive directors, equivalent to trustees in a charity sector; they are detached from day-to-day operations and valued for their objective insight. Directors will work with the leadership team to guide the organisation and to make sure it delivers to its beneficiaries.
As with a trustee in a charity, the non-executive director positions at DUA CIC are voluntary, they are not paid.

Who we are:
Devon Ukrainian Association CIC was formed in May 2022 to provide support and services to Ukrainian community in Devon, to UK families who are hosting them and to people interested in Ukrainian history and culture.
Our mission is to build a thriving Ukrainian community in Devon.
The organistion was being set up to do the following:
1. Host a welcome hub for refugees and new arrivals from Ukraine to create a culture of welcome and safety for those who are seeking a sanctuary from war.
This includes provisions of:
- advice, welfare and other assistance to relieve suffering and hardship to those in need;
- guidance to new arrivals in taking the first steps (bank, mobile services, NHS, etc);
- signposting to employment opportunities or services to develop employability skills;
- guidance in setting up a business and start up support programmes;
- translation and interpretation services.
2. Create educational and cultural programmes and services to advance:
- education amongst Ukrainian refugees and asylum seekers through the provision of language and other supplementary classes, as well as point in the direction of further education (schools, college, universities)
- education of the public in Ukrainian culture and history in particular through educational and cultural events. We aim to raise awareness concerning important contemporary and historical issues affecting Ukraine by facilitating public dialogue and discussion.

Publicity, Public Relations, Marketing and PR
Enterprise, Start Up, Trading
Education: Young People and Adults
Finance, Fundraising, Sponsorship
Policies: Safeguarding, GDPR, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Knowledge of English is required.
Time Commitment
The main duties of a Director are to
Work with staff to periodically review our objectives and ensure everything we do is aligned with our values.
Work with the relevant staff members to guide their work in your area of expertise, e.g. fundraising, safeguarding.
The board will meet every three months, a total of 4 times a year online or in person (if possible). Travel and childcare expenses will be covered for all onsite meetings.
This is a 24 months term of 12-16 hours a year commitment with a possibility of extending the term up to 36 months.
Role Purpose and Responsibilities
To agree policy and exercise control over the direction and performance of the organisation, whilst ensuring adherence to all appropriate statutory, prudential and regulatory requirements.
Main Activities and Key Tasks:
Attend board and appropriate board committee meetings to provide support to the leadership team.
Protect the interests of key stakeholders which includes: demonstrating competence with regard to risk management; and clearly understanding the organisation’s business model.
Be aware of the requirements from the Government Department for Business in running CIC, assuring that organisation is in compliance with the appropriate statutory, prudential and regulatory requirements.
Assist the leadership team in representing the Organisation to community, partners, media, press and others interested parties in the affairs of the Organisation e.g. this includes external and internal events.
Assure compliance with the organisation’s rules and policies.
Monitor the organisation’s financial position, ensuring it operates within its means whilst putting the interests of our beneficiaries at the front of our decision-making process.
Work with the Executive Director to ensure the organisation is appropriately resourced from both a financial and manpower perspective
Participate in the approval of major expenditure (capital and assets).
Evaluate board papers and exercise rigorous oversight in the running of the organisation.
Participate in consultation leading to the formulation of strategy and major policies.
Provide access to useful contacts and networks to help develop new business in line with strategy

How will the Directors be selected? DUA will shortlist the candidates and will send an invite for an interview to the selected candidates. DUA will respond within 72 hours after the interview with the result.
When will I be Notified, and how soon would I need to start?
● The deadline for expressions of interest is 30 September, 2024 5pm, and we’ll be aiming to talk to you within 1 week of receiving your email.
● Start date - 25 October, 2024
